MONDAY, 30TH OF MAY

PLAN C: BACK TO PLAN A: TUBING

THE BAD MORNING WEATHER HAS TURNED INTO SUPER BEAUTIFUL AFTERNOON WEATHER, SO WE'RE DEFINITELY GOING TUBING.

DETAILS HERE

With the vast number of differences between Australia and New Jersey, it’s appropriately stupid that we share a mutual affection for the capital of Texas. Austin is a pridefully odd and wonderfully laid back city that, like many other nice places in the world, doesn't want any more New Yorkers in it. Naturally, we'd like to live there someday. If you've never been there yourself, there's a decent chance you’ll heart Austin, too.

getting there

If for some reason you're unable to hitch a ride on Virgin Galactic, flying into Austin Bergstrom Airport (ATX) is your next best bet. For those coming long distances, many international destinations have direct flights into Dallas (DFW). Qantas actually has a direct flight from Sydney six times a week, and then from Dallas it’s just a quick hopper flight to ATX or a 3 hour drive.

staying there

We'll be staying in the South Congress area (or "SoCo," if you dare). It's a relaxed and residential neighborhood with bars, shops and restaurants all within walking distance. We have a room block at the South Congress Hotel for $269 per night.* It's an easygoing and centrally-located place to call temporary-home with both a poolside bar and an indoor watering hole that stays open until 2am — a must within the dubious borders of Jerstralia.

South Congress Hotel (group code 8091)

*PLEASE NOTE* Our room block pricing recently expired, but we have a few spare rooms being held for anyone that might need it. Please email us if so.

Airbnb and HomeAway are also great options in the South Congress neighborhood, as are these other hotels:

getting around

We'll provide shuttle buses to the main event on Saturday, as well as on Monday for the tubing adventure. For those staying at the South Congress Hotel, there's a "complimentary BMW house car" available that will drop you off wherever you want to go so long as it's within 3 miles of the hotel.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: AUSTIN RECENTLY GOT INTO A MAJOR TIFF WITH UBER & LYFT

As a result, the two companies have halted operations in Austin city limits as of May 9th. Please expect a little less efficiency with the services trying to fill the void.

Cabs via phone: Austin Express Cab: 512.666.4141 •  Austin Cab Co: 512.478.2222

Uber-ish apps: Get Me (apparently improving every day) • Z Trip (black cars & cabs) • Hailacab (cabs) • Wingz (only to/from airport)

If you've never been, the NYT recently did one of their "36 Hours in..." articles on Austin that serves as a good crash course.

The evening of the actual wedding and reception will be for adults 18 and up. But we'd love to see your progeny, so please feel free to bring them on down for any of the other events.

And if you do decide to bring your little (or not so little) ones, please contact Beth for a list of awesome babysitters vetted by the wedding planner.
